Final report Euro Teddy 2017
With Summerfeeling into a strong Autumn Season.
The Euro Teddy 2017 in Essen
Cuddling factor at about 20 degrees? That happens only at the Euro Teddy in Essen. Because at the
fair weekend the weather god meant it all too well with us and served beary strong good weather on October 14th and 15th.
For our exhibitors, however, it was no reason to pack up the very latest winter collections again. The huge, international followers rejoiced greatly to see all the cuddly creations, luminous Autumn colors and long pile mohair fabrics. The CongressCenter South of the Essen fair opened on time on Saturday morning, to let in the long queue of teddy fans, bear makers and collectors. And they arrived not only from nearby but also from far away, for example from Japan, Russia, the USA or also New Zealand. The Euro Teddy is not just the largest autumn fair, but before the long winter break also a top source of inspiration. Nowhere otherwise one finds so much concentrated know how by artists as in Essen.
Many renowned teddy makers presented their traditional bears, artist bears, miniature animals or
other species. Also the large factories such as “Hermann Spielwaren” or the “Kösener Spielzeugmanufaktur” joined into the league of extraordinary innovations.
”A Highlight was the white Steiff Teddy Bear of 1910.“
The organizer Christine Spies told us right after the fair. „He’s estimated with fabulous 2,800 Euros.“ Of course expert Daniel Hentschel was not to be missed and presented an exclusive showcase
and his legendary estimation point. „It is great that so many visitors take part in the service of
Mr. Hentschel and bring their inherited treasures to let him use his ´magnifying glass`“, rejoiced Christine Spies. Among them were some valuable rarities, which astonished even an experienced collector as Daniel Hentschel.
Large Offer of Artist Supplies
Those who were still looking for the the appropriate equipment for the long winter found fabrics, joints, cotter pins and glass eyes at the Euro Teddy. Here the distributors surprised with unusual collections
and finely tuned colorings. Also bear clothes were seen in abundance – from the knitted dresses up to caps of all kinds the artists brought a lot to show as bear ´Haute Couture`. Other highlights were the felting workshop at the booth of Katja Bredowski from the ´Netzbächer Bears` and the Teddy doctor.
The 24th Contest of the “Europameisterschaft der Teddybärenmacher” This year, the organizers recorded even more submissions for the contest than in the previous year – no
miracle that the jury was spoiled for choice. Who in Essen could enter the stage, you can see in the BaerReport magazine. But of course, we would like to tell about the audience awards. This year they were awarded to the artists Tanja Schilff, Silvia Gilles and Petra Heckmann.
See you next year!
